Who are we
Our commitments
Since 1895, the Friends of Nature have been working to bring people closer to the beauty and richness of nature, particularly the mountains, the birthplace of the movement in Austria. True to their motto Berg Frei (“Free Mountains”), they advocate a respectful, supportive, and humanistic approach to leisure and tourism.
An independent and committed association
The Friends of Nature are free from any political or religious affiliation. Their actions are based on strong values:
- Solidarity tourism
- Leisure activities in unspoiled natural surroundings
- Peace and bringing people together
- Respect for social and democratic rights
- Self-management and active participation by all
- The development of enriching physical and cultural activities
All activities are proposed, prepared, and supervised on a voluntary basis by the members themselves, in a spirit of sharing and transmission. Each person’s passion becomes a springboard for introducing others to meaningful leisure activities.
An international network
Present in 35 countries and 40 member organizations.
Les Amis de la Nature promotes exchanges and encounters between groups from different cultures. The French Federation encourages quality tourism:
- Respectful of local populations and the places visited
- Focused on authentic discovery of destinations
- Driven by a friendly, supportive, and sustainable approach
In developing countries, this approach is accompanied by a desire to bring real benefits to the inhabitants. In Africa in particular, sustainable partnerships and concrete solidarity actions have emerged.
Places to meet
Most local associations manage carefully maintained lodges or campsites. These Friends of Nature houses are welcoming spaces where you can:
- Rest and recharge your batteries
- Stay in a friendly environment
- Share evenings with other nature lovers
These facilities are open to everyone, members and non-members alike, in France and internationally. They embody the spirit of hospitality, simplicity, and fraternity that drives our movement.
